Our next outing was to the Yonghe Temple, and the Winter Palace.
The Yonghe Temple – commonly known as the Lama Temple – houses both a temple and a Buddhist monastery. A residence for eunuchs of the previous dynasty was formerly in the spot where the new complex, which was built in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, was erected. Pun intended.
